Nebulizer
A nebulizer is a medical device used to administer medication in the form of a mist or aerosol, which can be inhaled directly into the lungs. It is commonly used for treating respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, and other pulmonary diseases. The nebulizer transforms liquid medications into a fine mist or aerosol, making it easier for patients to inhale the medication deeply into their airways and lungs.
Types of Perimeters
Compressor : The compressor is the motor-driven component of the nebulizer that generates the airflow necessary to turn liquid medication into an aerosol or mist.
Nebulizer Cup/Chamber : This is where the liquid medication is placed.
Tubing : Flexible tubing connects the nebulizer cup to the compressor.
Mouthpiece or Face Mask :
Mouthpiece : Used when the patient is able to breathe through their mouth.
Face Mask : Typically used for young children or patients who have difficulty using a mouthpiece.
Medication : The medication used in nebulizers is usually in liquid form, often in pre-measured doses or vials.
Types of Nebulizers
Jet Nebulizers (Compressor Nebulizers):
The most common type of nebulizer.
It uses compressed air generated by an external compressor to turn liquid medication into a fine mist.
Jet nebulizers are usually larger, require a power source (electrical or battery), and are typically used in clinics or hospitals but can be used at home as well.
Ultrasonic Nebulizers:
Ultrasonic waves are used to convert the liquid medication into a mist.
These devices tend to be quieter and smaller compared to jet nebulizers.
They may be more expensive and are often used for specific conditions or in more specialized medical settings.
Mesh Nebulizers:
A newer technology that uses a mesh membrane with tiny holes to create an aerosol from the liquid medication.
They are smaller and more portable than jet nebulizers, and they operate more quietly.
Mesh nebulizers are commonly used for home care because they are easy to use and more efficient with medication.
